FASHION FILM: HÓNG (2022)

Constructed by nine looks and seven scenes, HÓNG is an experimental short film that investigates and chronicles the life of a “liberated” woman in China after 1949: a visual-audio retrospective look into Chinese feminism as a character entwined with ever-changing cultural and political backdrops. The two project initiators: producer, creative director, designer, and writer Kun Hong, and director Xiao Han, present this film as a reflection and response to concerning social events and humanitarian crises occurring in China and echoing elsewhere in the world over the past five years. HÓNG wishes to bring attention to this complex and essential part of Chinese history not studied systematically in its homeland and inspire its viewers to uncover causes leading up to the current climate surrounding contemporary women of Chinese origin. In creating and debuting HÓNG, we the creative team of HÓNG as young creatives of Chinese background working within a global community demand to rethink and expand our expectations of fashion and film.

In Collaboration with Director Xiao Han and Many Others…
