Unspooling Wind is a movement-based narrative short of the universal human quest for self-actualization: three half-kite half-human people went on their journey of finding out what the ‘kite’ is through an encounter with the medium. Collaborating with creative director, artist, and costume designer Yin Zhang, several print designs were created and fabricated specifically for each of the characters within this film. These engineered digital prints were designed through visual experimentation and manipulation of scanned old family photos, including photos of Yin’s great-grandmother, to whom the film is inspired by as well as dedicated to. Yin Zhang provided both the source photos and original costume pattern pieces. Below are selected stills from the film featuring the printed bodysuits.
